A very popular optional feature in Niesmann+Bischoff motorhomes is the Victron Energy Multiplus. About 80 percent of our motorhomes are equipped with an inverter, as it is an important component of self-sufficient living.
The Multiplus is a combination unit: On the one hand, it serves as a charger for the body batteries; on the other hand, it functions as an inverter to convert 12 volts from the body batteries into 230 volts. It is installed in the rear garage on all models.
Check out our video on this topic:
How it works
- Charger Mode: External power is connected
- The charger charges the body batteries
- Power is supplied to all 230V appliances in the interior
- Inverter Mode: No external power connected, but 230 volts are required
- The inverter draws 12V from the batteries
- Converts 12 volts to 230 volts and powers the loads
Fuse
- AC IN: Input for 230V external power
- Covers the circuit between the external power connection and the inverter input
- AC2-OUT: Protects the circuit at the inverter output
- For example, outlets, air conditioner, and dishwasher
- Active only when external power is connected
- AC1-OUT: Protects the circuit at the inverter output
- For example, power outlets, air conditioning, and the microwave
- In self-sufficient mode
Note: The dishwasher can't be operated via the inverter; it must be powered by external power.
Operation
Note: Always leave the switch on the unit in the garage set to “on”.
The inverter is operated using the remote control located in the electronics compartment inside the motorhome. It consists of:
- Three-way toggle switch
- Always leave it set to “charger only”
- Set it to ‘on’ when 230 volts are needed, then return it to “charger only”
- Status lights
- "mains on" lights up when the charger is in operation
- "bulk": batteries are charged at approximately 120 amps until they are about 80 percent charged
- "absorption": flat-rate charging until the batteries are almost full
- "float": trickle charging
- "inverter on" lights up when the inverter is in operation
- "overload": short circuit/overload in the inverter
- "low battery": batteries are deeply discharged or close to it
- "temperature": body batteries are outside the normal temperature
- "mains on" lights up when the charger is in operation
- Display & adjustment knob
- Maximum amperage that the Multiplus can draw from the shore power connection
- Adjustable from 0 to 16 amps using the control dial
Note: If 16 amps of external power cannot be drawn, but the power demand in the motorhome is higher, the Power Assist function automatically provides support by drawing the additional energy needed from the body batteries.
