Feel free to watch our YouTube video on this topic (English subtitles available):
1. Base vehicle
- Check the vehicle’s fluids and top them off as needed, including engine coolant, windshield washer fluid, fuel, and oil.
- Inspect the condition of the tires (including the spare tire), including tread depth, tire quality, tire age, and tire pressure.
- Check the vehicle battery voltage and recharge if necessary.
2. Electrical system
- Pack adapters and extension cords for the 230-volt power connection.
- Check that the entry step fully extends and retracts.
- Check the operation of the central control panel and the electrical components connected to it.
- Check the voltage of the body batteries and recharge them if necessary.
- Be sure to disconnect the external power supply before setting off!
3. Gas system
- Gas cylinders must be secured in the gas compartment so they cannot roll around.
- If installed, fill the gas tank before your first trip.
- If the vehicle is equipped with a crash sensor, open the main gas valves.
- If no crash sensor is installed, do not open the valves until you are ready to use the gas during your trip.
- Open the gas valves to the appliances.
- Before departure, check the function of the gas system by briefly turning on the gas stove.
4. Water/wastewater system
- Close the drain valves and siphons if they were left open before the winter break.
- Clean the water tank and the plumbing system, then refill them.
- Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for filling the fresh water tank for travel.
- Before setting off, check that there is no water standing in the toilet bowl, sink, or washbasin.
5. Heating system
- Check the heating system’s pressure relief valve under the vehicle for dirt and clean it if necessary.
- Check the level of the heating fluid and top it off if necessary.
6. Interior and equipment
- Before your first trip, thoroughly ventilate and clean the motorhome.
- Be sure to check the vehicle for any small animals that may have gotten inside.
- Load the vehicle according to your needs, for example with food, dishes, and cleaning supplies.
- Stow everything securely and fasten it if necessary.
- Retract and secure the TV screens for the drive.
- Close all flaps, doors, and drawers so that the central locking system can engage when the engine is started.
- Move all doors to the driving position. Close roof hatches and windows.
- Before departure, ensure that all kitchen appliances are working, such as the refrigerator and freezer.
- Clean the refrigerator and turn it on one day before storing food.
